Postcards from Hawaii : 050207
Aloha,
The ocean is a fickle lover. One day providing attention like no other. The next you don't get tea in bed.
The North Shore has mood changes like you wouldn't believe. Yesterday we were greeted with liquid glass peeling into cvernous delight. 360 minutes later the ocean was windswept showing her cold shoulder.
Today the ocean was flat bar three feet of fun. The WQS surfers, yes the WQS surfers, decided not to surf. Since when do those who spend the better part of a year on the road get to decided if they will compete on any given day? They would have run a few heats this morning depriving those heat contestants of the predicted rise in swell overnight. Let me take this speaker out of my ear . . . Yes a fresh rumble is carried within the air.
4 days left, two full days required. Not much breathing space to start getting picky.
So today I spent a few hours in the sun looking at the sights, very nice sights I must add. LCD screens on digital cameras are the best makeshift mirrors in the world. Especially when a Brasillian is sunning herself in all her true Brasillian slenderness six feet behind you. Too close for the 600 to focus but far enough for themirror to function. All while getting some nice free surfing action.
Contest should be on tomorrow, that's if the WQS surfers decide Starbucks can wait till after their work is done. While you are all sleeping I will be floating on the back of a jet-ski camer in hand and no waterhousing. Gotta love Pelican cases and the Hawaiian water safety crew.
Good night sleep tight don't let her bed bugs bite.
